We must have spoken on the phone four times in thirty minutes. Our session (which we had already scheduled and rescheduled) was supposed to start in an hour but the weather had been crazy. With thunderclouds looming and the ground still soaking wet we decided to just go for it and I’m so glad we did. Isn’t she beautiful?
Seeing a little trend here? Yup, that’s right another mother and child session. I can’t help it–I love them! This little sweetie was a little tired, but oh-so-cute. The last photo melts my heart. Lucky me I get to spend a week at the beach with him so you will most likely be seeing more photos of him on my blog. You might recognize his beautiful momma from her maternity session.

At night while laying sleepless in bed, my head is filled with thoughts on how quickly time is passing. My baby is six—almost seven. We are more than “one-third-of-they-way-done” before she turns 18 and could move away to attend college… go back-packing through Europe… volunteer for some cause … move in a group house or worse yet with a boyfriend. I hope these next twelve years don’t go by as fast as the last six.

Oh Jody – it really hit home here. It’s as if in a blink of an eye I’m “two-thirds-of-the-way-done” – sad…and shopping for her first graduation dress..sixth grade is over and off to middle school…I only hope she is less confused and scared than I am:)…hope next six years will slow down…she still needs to learn how to cook before leaving me for good:)

Just my kiddos at the lake back in early April. I haven’t been photographing them much lately partially due to the rainy Spring we’ve had and also to give them a break from the mamarazzi of the last two years. One of my goals this year has been quality not quantity. I’m not sure I’m achieving the quality, but I’m definitely not photographing them as much. I’m not dragging the camera with me everywhere we go and I’m trying to just relax and be in the moment with the kids. Last weekend we took them to one of the most beautiful spots I’ve been to in a long time and at first it was killing me that I didn’t have my camera. In the end though, I was able to actually play with them and really watch them (not through the back of a camera) as they explored the park–we saw eastern bluebirds, red-winged blackbirds, osprey, turtles, muskrats, huge bullfrogs, white herons, and more. I’ll definitely head back there to photograph them at some point, but it felt good to just be a Mom and not a photographer.

You got quality girl – that’s for sure! Quite honestly, lately I’ve been looking at the point and shoot photos of my own that I used to do before I got into photography, and I love them also – b/c they are MY kids and memories of OUR time. Bring your iphone or P&S if you don’t want to lug the ‘big’ camera out (I totally get it). Later on you’ll love having any type of image. Documenting is all sorts of important also. And yes – completely agree with ‘being with them in the moment’ vs. being behind a camera. Good for you! Just my 2cents!
