I think I’ve mentioned before that I LOVE in-home photo sessions and these photos are a great example of why. I find that people are most comfortable at home. I am on your turf. Children aren’t distracted and they want to play with me, show me their rooms, their favorite toys, how high they can jump on the bed, etc. And, I have a “thing” for homes. I moved a lot while growing up and I don’t have photographs of most of my homes. I SO wish I did. My memory is fading and I can’t remember some of the homes at all. I do have a memory of one home in Yokohama, Japan. It was a little house high on a hill and surrounded by pink geraniums. There was a clothesline in the back I used to hang on. And I could be making this up, but I think it looked out onto Tokyo Bay. I loved that house… I really wish I had some photos. Anyway, I love that I can help create these memory “reminders” for people. Someday this sweet little boy will love having these photos of just him and his Mom on a typical weekday morning. Mom was a little worried that she was still in her pjs, but I love it and I think in the long run she’ll be happy she has these “real” photos of her and her son. And, if I looked half as beautiful as she does in my pajamas, I’d be wearing them all the time… the grocery store, preschool pick-up, girls-night-out…

On another note, I know it’s been quite a while since I blogged. I took the winter off to work on some home projects (with the very talented lady above—more on that later) and just hang out with the kids. Frankly, I am not much of a winter person, but I am thrilled that Spring has arrived and I’m excited to start shooting again. As I mentioned, I spent much of my childhood in Japan and like everyone I am heartbroken over what has happened. I am trying to figure out different ideas for how I can help with the donation efforts and I’ll be making an announcement on my blog soon.

I agree, kudos to mom, she looks wonderful and it adds so much to the pictures. I so love your style, Jody; you make the simplest scenes look beautiful and ethereal.

Oh Jody, I just LOVE this!!!!!!!! I really am feeling so drawn to a more natural way of capturing people and you do it so well. I long to be able to make tangible memories for people of how their life really is not how they dresses up for one day and posed. I need to take notes from you. ♥

Found you via Rashmi’s pinterest. The picture she pinned grabbed me–so beautiful. I was a Navy brat too (and we lived for three years in Yokosuka) so I totally get your feelings on home. I’ve had so many houses through the years and I have only vague memories of some of them. Lovely work.
