“Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul;
the blueprints of your ultimate achievements”
~ Napoleon Hill
I recently had the amazing opportunity to attend one of the JinkyArt’s workshops. (To my photog friends I’ll insert the nanny-nanny-boo-boo here. Wink, wink.) While I expected to be awed over her photography skills, her use of light, her creativity in setting up shoots, her interaction with her clients (how does she get so much emotion in her photos?!) and her mad editing skills what I took away most is how important it is to just … be … you. This is exciting and scary at the same time. Figuring out your style is one of the hardest things aspiring photographers (or at least this aspiring photographer) struggle with. It’s so easy to look at photographers you admire and want to be just like them. My favorite photographers have such different styles and that is one of the things I love most about them. From a creative perspective, it is so easy to compare yourself to others and think, “Dude. I suck.” So, my plan is to do a little less blog-stalking, Flickr-surfing, and forum-posting and instead do a lot more soul-searching and shooting the types of sessions that make my heart sing.
This is one of many sessions we shot. I’ll share more over the next few weeks. For anyone debating on whether they should attend a JinkyArt Workshop, DO IT! Barb/Jinky is a creative-genius and a kind soul. She’ll send you away with a full-heart and totally inspired.
